Singers’ Vocal Performance Workshop

Carver Museum & Cultural Center

All singers’ are invited to learn or receive coaching on jazz vocal performance techniques at the Women in Jazz Singers’ Vocal Performance Workshop

 

The workshop will be lead by Austin’s greatest jazz influences:

  • Dr. James Polk who will discuss and demonstrate communicating with musicians. This important technique teaches singers to take control of their stage by conducting the format of a tune--the introduction, middle and ending--using verbal and non-verbal clues musicians understand.

Suzi Stern, one of Austin’s best female jazz vocalists and an outstanding vocal instructor, will lead a session on Jazz Improvisation Techniques.

 

 

Pamela Hart, another great vocalist, will lead a session Performance Techniques, including stage presence, microphone technique, overcoming stage fright, and audience rapport. In addition, Ms. Hart will lead a discussion on Preparing for the Music Industry.

  • All participants will have an opportunity to sing with three great jazz musicians, James Polk on piano, Michael Stephens on bass, and Kevin Scott on drums. “Most of what will be taught in this workshop is not taught in school,” says Pamela Hart. In the great jazz era, singers learned these techniques on the road.

This workshop will provide a rare opportunity vocalists of all ages should not pass up. Seats are still available... but hurry!
